Less-covered names can offer great insights, returns
While Dollar Tree and Dollar General have struggled to hit their stride in 2026 Casey’s General Stores ($CASY) is up 39% YTD, despite a recent pullback. The Iowa based chain offering everything from gas and automotive to basic groceries has found its stride over the last 3yrs, returning over 250% to investors, despite generating almost no attention from the wider Wall St community.
Apple is one of the most important companies on earth but its shares are, as usual, more or less flat during WWDC. Meanwhile $LOVE and $RH, which both report Thursday, have an average post earnings move in the mid-to-high teens and are in the loathed furniture business, all but given up for dead.
Who needs to pay a premium for options when you can trade common shares with decent set-ups and much less coverage?
Your line up for the week is below. My favorite name for the long term is CASY. For a trade, which in this case means “Money you’d otherwise put in lottery tickets” I’d take a look at RH and LOVE, both reporting Thursday.
I don’t expect “great” news from either. I don’t even think RH or LOVE will be good, by classic financial standards. But I like them as spec ideas.
I want to pay attention to the names reporting this week specifically because they aren’t in the spotlight. The entire economic debate this year surrounds depth of consumer demand and the state of the consumer as a whole. We know Apple will sell a ton of phones, almost no matter what happens with gas and sentiment. I’ll learn much more about how the average consumer is doing from a company like Casey’s.
