In this final chapter of Macke on Retail, I share how I think about putting together a portfolio, applying the principles I walked through in Modules 1 through 3.
In part one, we reviewed the Consumer Economy. It’s not just retail but a way of viewing the world from the perspective of end users. Plenty of companies have fine theories on how to build better mousetraps, but if there isn’t a satisfied group of customers at the end of the production, there isn’t a point. Over 70% of the U.S. economy is driven by consumer spending. An American can’t leave the house without stumbling over potential investment ideas. From the shoes people are wearing to what they’re driving and where they’re spending their time, it’s all research; assuming you know what you’re looking for.
